No Lightweight for Philly’s own.

Just days after suffering a knockout loss to Michael Morales at UFC 322 (watch highlights), perennial top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender Sean Bradybriefly flirted with the idea of dropping down to Lightweight for a fresh start and new matchups.

As it turns out, that idea didn’t last long.

Many fans questioned whether the stocky, muscle-bound Brady could ever safely make 155 pounds — and after running the numbers, Brady confirmed it’s simply not happening.

“The thing was, what I said on the show was I was going to do some testing and we’d see where we’d go from there,” Brady explained on his podcast The BradyBagz Show. “I ain’t going to 155. I did a Dexa scan and I was dieting pretty hard right after my fight — the lowest I got down to was 190 pounds. I was super lean, sitting at seven percent body fat.”

After consulting with the UFC Performance Institute, the verdict was crystal clear.

“I was talking to the guys at the UFC P.I., and they said I’d almost have to cut off a limb to try and make it,” Brady added.

With Lightweight officially off the table, Brady says he’s more than comfortable staying at 170 pounds — a division where he’s already proven himself against elite competition.

“I’m a bigger Welterweight when it comes to muscle. I’m not small, it’s just dimension-wise,” Brady said. “But I’ve beaten tall guys my entire career. There’s no reason for me to change divisions. I didn’t lose to Morales because he was taller than me — I just got caught. That’s that.”

Brady insists he’ll bounce back strong and reestablish himself as a title threat.

There’s currently no timetable for his Octagon return, but Brady has made it clear he’d welcome a rematch with Belal Muhammad — the only other fighter to defeat him in the UFC.
