Michigan Football continues to reload through the transfer portal, this time landing a commitment from Memphis safety Chris Bracy:
Michigan has officially added a key piece to its secondary for the 2026 season, as safety Chris Bracy has committed to the Wolverines following his entry into the transfer portal. The standout defensive back, who played his 2025 season at Memphis, brings proven production and physicality to Ann Arbor’s defensive unit.
Bracy, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety from Mobile, Alabama carved out a significant role for Memphis in 2025 after transferring from UAB. He finished third on the team with 81 total tackles, to go along with 9.5 tackles for loss, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble and one interception. He consistently showcased an ability to make plays both in coverage and near the line of scrimmage.
Bracy wasn’t limited to a single role in Memphis’ scheme. He logged significant snaps in the box, at free safety and in coverage situations. That versatility should give Michigan’s coaching staff flexibility as it pieces together a secondary that may still be in flux entering the 2026 season.
He arrives to Ann Arbor with two years of eligibility left, providing Michigan with both immediate help and longer-term stability. Bracy also played nearly 800 defensive snaps last season, finishing with a team-leading 91.3 PFF run defense grade along the way.
With questions still lingering about Michigan’s depth in the secondary, fans should expect Bracy to compete immediately for playing time and potentially become a core contributor in Michigan’s new defensive scheme.
