Egypt set for blockbuster March tests in World Cup build-up

Egypt will face Saudi Arabia & Spain in two high profile friendlies in Qatar during the March international window as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed that the Pharaohs will meet Saudi Arabia on 26 March before taking on Spain on 30 March with both matches scheduled to be played in Qatar.

The decision comes under the supervision of EFA president Hany Abo Rida and in full coordination with head coach Hossam Hassan as part of structured build up toward the World Cup in North America.

"

According to the EFA, the aim is clear:

  • Expose the squad to different footballing schools
  • Raise both physical and tactical readiness through elite level opposition.

The clash with Spain will be staged at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium with kick off set for 17:00 GMT.

It will be only the second meeting between the two nation. Their first encounter dates back to June 2006 when Spain won 2-0 in Elche through goals from Raul & José Antonio Reyes.

"

Spain’s March schedule also includes Finalissima against Argentina underlining the competitive context in which Egypt will be tested.

Egypt will compete at the 2026 World Cup in group featuring Belgium, Iran and New Zealand with the expanded tournament running from 11 June to 19 July.
