Here are the Ames Tribune male Athlete of the Week candidates for the week of Jan. 4-10.
The week of Jan. 4-10 was the first full week back for high school athletes in the Ames area.
There was some exciting competition featuring Ames-area teams during the week.
The Ames boys wrestling team hosted the Mendenhall Invitational. The Ames boys basketball team went 2-1 during the week with wins over Fort Dodge and Marshalltown, and the Ames boys swimming team scored a 110-60 dual victory at Marshalltown.
Basketball teams from Ballard, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story also had a busy first week back. Ballard, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story were also active on the wrestling mat.
Many male athletes from the Ames area stood out during the week.

Brandon Johnson, Ames
Johnson was a force inside for the Ames boys basketball team during the week.
Johnson posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds during a 63-57 non-conference loss to Urbandale on Jan. 5 at Ames. He posted 13 points and six rebounds during a 61-26 victory at Fort Dodge on Jan. 6.
Easton Enyeart, Ballard
Enyeart went 4-0 at 132 pounds for the Ballard boys wrestling team at the Glenn Brand Duals on Jan. 10 in Clarion.
Enyeart pinned Clarion-Goldfield-Dows' Jared Hernandez, Hampton-Dumont-CAL's Arnold Guevara-Barrera and West Marshall's James Decker. He also earned a 16-3 major decision over Decorah's Mason Avila.
Luke Thoreson, Roland-Story
Thoreson turned in a pair of strong performances for the Roland-Story boys basketball team during the week.
Thoreson went for a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 62-49 win over Prairie City-Monroe on Jan. 6 in Monroe. He posted 18 points and eight rebounds during a 52-47 victory over Saydel on Jan. 9 at Story City.
Mason Wibholm, Gilbert
Wibholm placed first at 157 pounds for the Gilbert boys wrestling team during the Mustang Invitational on Jan. 10 at Monroe.
Wibholm finished 3-0 during the tournament to improve to 17-7 on the season. He scored a 3-0 win over Indianola's Ian McDonald, a 5-3 victory over Southeast Polk JV's Samer Arafa and a 15-0 technical fall over Frontenac's (Kan.) Scott Sloan.
Paden Myers, Collins-Maxwell
Myers had a huge game for the Collins-Maxwell boys basketball team during an 87-81 victory at Twin Cedars on Jan. 8.
Myers torched Twin Cedars for 33 points after making 13 of 25 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers. He also contributed 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal and block apiece.
