Vote for Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 4-10

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week candidates for the week of Jan. 4-10.

The week of Jan. 4-10 saw Iowa high school athletes return from Christmas break.

It was a productive return week for high school female sports teams from the Ames area.

The Ames girls basketball team ran its winning streak to five games with victories over Urbandale (49-38), Fort Dodge (51-34) and Marshalltown (58-22). The Little Cyclone girls wrestling team competed at the North Mahaska Invitational on June 10.

Ballard, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story each had a busy week of girls basketball. The Ballard, Gilbert and Nevada girls wrestling teams each had a full week as well.

There were a number of standout performances by female high school athletes from the Ames area during the week.

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week nominees for the week of Jan. 4-10. AmesTrib.com readers vote to determine the winner, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Jordyn Crosman, Gilbert

Jordyn Crosman was a perfect 4 of 4 from both the field and the line in scoring a game-high 15 points for the Gilbert girls basketball team during a 57-49 victory over Bondurant-Farrar on Jan. 9 at Gilbert, Iowa.

Crosman had a breakout game off the bench for the Gilbert girls basketball team during the Tigers' 57-49 victory over Bondurant-Farrar on Jan. 9 at Gilbert.

Crosman led Gilbert with 15 points after shooting a perfect 4 of 4 from both the field and the line, with three 3-pointers. Crosman also chipped in two rebounds and steals apiece.

A.K. Nolan, Ames

Nolan placed first at 155 pounds for the Ames girls wrestling team during the North Mahaska Invitational on Jan. 10 at New Sharon.

Nolan was 4-0 during the tournament with three pins and one victory by forfeit. She pinned Washington's Colbie Greiner in 2:40 during her final match.

Avyn Heintz, Nevada

Heintz was strong in the low paint for the Nevada girls basketball team during a 60-21 victory at Saydel on Jan. 5.

Heintz just missed recording a double-double after finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. She also had four steals and two blocks.

Camryn Thoreson, Roland-Story

Thoreson was huge off the bench for the Roland-Story girls basketball team during a 61-15 victory over Saydel on Jan. 9 at Story City.

Thoreson went for 16 points against the Eagles. She also had two rebounds, assists and steals during the game.

Evelyn Faubus, Ballard

Faubus placed third at 120 for the Ballard girls wrestling team during at tough Ogden Girls Varsity Tournament on Jan. 10 at Ogden.

Faubus finished 4-1 during the tournament to push her season record to 24-5. She two pins, a 5-0 decision over Perry's Amelie Canales and an 11-3 major decision over Emmetsburg's Taylor Thayer.
