Legendary Michigan Running Back Sends Clear Message on Freshman QB Bryce Underwood

The Michigan Wolverines' football program is known for producing top-tier players at several important positions on the field, including offensive line, cornerback, quarterback, and more. The Wolverines' running game powered former coach Jim Harbaugh's team to the 2023-24 National Championship and has been a program calling card for several decades, dating back to the dawn of the Bo Schembechler era in 1969. "If you were to build a QB in a lab, this is what you would want," Pro Football Focus wrote on Tuesday along with a video of Michigan freshman QB Bryce Underwood practicing in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines' running game powered former coach Jim Harbaugh's team to the 2023-24 National Championship and has been a program calling card for several decades, dating back to the dawn of the Bo Schembechler era in 1969.

On Wednesday, a message surfaced from one of the Wolverines' top running backs of all time, a Massachusetts native who currently ranks as the program's fourth all-time leading rusher.

"If you were to build a QB in a lab, this is what you would want," Pro Football Focus wrote on Tuesday along with a video of Michigan freshman QB Bryce Underwood practicing in Ann Arbor.

Bryce Underwood, 17, a freshman quarterback at Michigan and the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, participates in a football drill during a private workout in Detroit on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

"The hype for Bryce Underwood is REAL," the page added with a sloped 'M' emoji.

The message and video were retweeted by Jamie Morris, Michigan's fourth all-time leading rusher, who has remained active in a journalistic role around the program since leaving the university.

Morris finished with 3,943 yards in his Wolverines career on the ground and was eventually surpassed by Anthony 'A Train' Thomas, quarterback Denard Robinson and Mike Hart on Michigan's all-time rushing charts.

Underwood is a dual threat quarterback who could redefine the position for Michigan one year after Davis Warren, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle struggled to be effective in coach Sherrone Moore's first season.
