Duke Win Streak Builds On The Road At Cal

The season now looks completely different than it did just a few weeks ago.

It took some doing, but Duke won Game 2 of the California trip, knocking off Stanford 67-60 and extending the win streak to eight games.

The game started slow with Stanford taking a 15-12 lead after the first quarter but Duke rallied to take a 31-28 lead at the half. The Blue Devils led at the end of the third quarter as well. The fourth quarter was pretty nip and tuck until Duke built a 60-55 lead with 2:36 left.

Toby Fournier was a huge factor in the last 1:46, assisting on a shot by Delaney Thomas and hitting a two and a three pointer herself to help trap the Bears.

Fournier had a terrific all-round game with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 4 blocks. Thomas was the leading scorer with 19 points and she also added 6 boards. Ashlon Jackson finished with 14 and 6 boards of her own.

Arianna Roberson is increasingly becoming a big factor, pun intended. The 6-4 redshirt freshman had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in 15 minutes.

The start of the season was very rocky and it looked for a time like the wheels might be coming off. With an eight-game win streak, that’s long ago and far away. Kara Lawson has done a tremendous job of righting the ship. Next up is Virginia in Cameron on Wednesday, which is a challenging game but winnable.

Duke, along with Louisville, are the only undefeated teams in conference play. UVA is right behind them at 5-1, so it’s potentially huge.
