JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — East Tennessee State University Cheer and Dance teams will be competing in the 2026 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.
The teams will compete in several categories. Dance team competition categories include game day, jazz, hip-hop and poms. Cheerleading will compete in the game-day and traditional-routine categories.
News Channel 11 spoke with members of the spirit program about what the teams’ road to nationals has looked like.
“It means a lot that all these people are out here coming to support us, because we’ve worked really hard,” ETSU cheerleader Jaelyn Miller said. “Not a lot of people really understand what we do behind the scenes, because at games we just cheer for other teams, but it’s really exciting because we actually go and perform routines at nationals.”
The competition will kick off on January 16 in Orlando, Florida.
