EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The USI Screaming Eagles are tied at the top of the OVC at the midway point of the season. They have their defense to thank.

The Screaming Eagles are #1 in the conference in scoring defense and steal. They are second in turnover margin and third in opponent field goal percentage.

Players said they enjoyed being a pest on defense for the full 40 minutes.

“Defense is my favorite part of basketball,” junior guard Shannon Blacher said. “I just think we focus a lot on defense as a team and that’s how we win games. That’s our main focus going into every game.”

“We’re going to be out in passing lanes,” senior guard Ali Saunders said. “We are going to deny hard. When our player does catch the ball, we have ball pressure, don’t allow easy passes, and don’t even allow them to see under the basket. I think that does us really well defensively.
