The Dallas Mavericks have reached another low point in a season that continues to unravel.
One night after learning Anthony Davis suffered ligament damage in his left hand, an injury that could require surgery and sideline him for several months, Dallas offered little resistance in an 125-107 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.
Chicago (18-20), sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference, overwhelmed the Mavericks (14-25) with pace and physicality. The Bulls outscored Dallas 38-8 in fast-break points, held a 24-point advantage in the paint and won the rebounding battle by 10.
Cooper Flagg, the brightest source of optimism for Mavericks fans, struggled to find rhythm. The rookie finished with 11 points, one rebound and one assist while shooting 4 of 13 from the field.
Naji Marshall added 14 points but was similarly inefficient, going 4 of 11.
Ryan Nembhard led Dallas in scoring, an unexpected development that underscored the Mavericks’ current state. The two-way guard scored 16 points to go along with six assists and three rebounds.
It was not nearly enough.
Dallas never led and trailed by as many as 27 points as the Bulls controlled the game from start to finish.
The Mavericks will look for a response Monday night when they host the Brooklyn Nets.
