We really enjoyed Liam Rosenior’s first press conference as Chelsea boss, but his interview on TNT Sports with Joe Cole was even better.

He’s a really interesting guy, quite quirky, and this format allowed us to get to know him a little better. Cole asked what culture he wanted to set in the first ten days of his reign as the new Chelsea manager, taking over from the ruins of Enzo Maresca’s time.

Rosenior on his first ten days as Chelsea manager

Liam Rosenior speaks to Joe Cole.

“It sounds strange, but: connection, openness, honesty, transparency and trust. The first word I put to the players was trust,” Rosenior said.

“If you’re not in a place where you trust the coach or you trust your teammate or you trust yourself, you’re never going to win a game of football.

“I think they’ve got to know me as well as they possibly can in the last 48 hours. We’ve had some very interesting meetings,” he said with a half smile. We wonder what he means by that? Has he laid down the law and been harsh? Or has he been talking about trust and honesty when they were expecting a tactical chat about how to set up their pressing structure?

Either way, he’s self aware about it, clearly.

“I think they understand my demands, I think they understand where I think we can go, with the team we have.”

In other news…

The coach called himself “strange” and “crazy” in that same interview, and we’re starting to understand what he means by that. He’s a very interesting character, that’s for sure.

Rosenior has made his intentions for tonight’s game very clear – he knows what he wants to see from his group, and he’s already communicated that to them.
