MINEOLA, Texas (KETK)– Mineola ISD announced on Friday that its head football coach and athletic director will be leaving his current position to transition to a new role within the district.

Luke Blackwell has been coaching in Mineola for the past 18 years and was a member of the coaching staff when the program won its first title in 2016. Blackwell finishes his tenure as head coach with a 44-34 overall record.

The district stated that Blackman will be stepping down from his current roles as head football coach and athletic director to become the new dean of students at Mineola Primary School.

Blackman’s former position will be posted on Jan. 12 and the district stated they will conduct a statewide search for the next leader of Mineola ISD Athletics.
