TIME MACHINE: FIORENTINA v AC MILAN

In Florence in the winter. This is something that hasn't happened since 2017, on that occasion it was the end of December but now it's the start of January. After Cagliari, the Rossoneri are back to playing away from home in a match which is always important and tough, especially considering that we are visiting our ex-manager Pioli's team. Ahead of the game, it's time to look back and to relive our 2-1 win over Fiorentina at the Franchi on 04/06/1995, thanks to the Time Machine. 

During a glorious era, in seasons full of successes, at the end of a campaign during which we played a key role, AC Milan was going through a rough patch of form: the match in Florence brought the Serie A 1994/95 season to a close, a season in which Capello's side could no longer fight for the Scudetto and had already secured European qualification. The team were coming into the match off the back of a painful Champions League Final defeat in Vienna, with a lot of absentees. The Rossoneri started well and took the lead in the 5th minute: a good pass from Panucci was met by Melli's right-footed strike into the corner. AC Milan dominated the play but the Viola equalised in the 42nd minute: Cimarelli played a ball through, Batistuta controlled it and struck powerfully past Rossi. 

The Diavolo pushed in the second half, initially squandering good opportunities due to a lack of luck (a free-kick which hit the post), lack of precision in front of goal and Toldo's saves. Then, late in the game, a decisive moment came as Di Mauro handled the ball in the area. A penalty was awarded and Simone converted it in the 79th minute. Simone went close to scoring a brace but it didn't matter in the end as the win was secured. This win meant that AC Milan finished the season in fourth place on 60 points.
