Cal transfer LB Cade Uluave started Texas visit on Thursday

The Longhorns got 247Sports’ No. 1 portal linebacker to the Forty Acres.

After hosting Wisconsin Badgers transfer linebacker Christian Alliegre earlier this week only to lose the talented portal target to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Texas Longhorns secured a visit from Cal Golden Bears transfer linebacker Cade Uluave on Thursday.

The 6’1, 235-pounder has one season of eligibility remaining.

Ranked as the No. 1 linebacker in the portal, according to 247Sports, and the No. 51 player overall, Uluave is a Utah product who was ranked as a consensus three-star prospect in the 2023 class out of Mountain Ridge in Herriman, a Salt Lake City suburb. The No. 956 player nationally and the No. 75 linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Uluave signed with Cal over offers from Boise State, Duke, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State, UCLA, Utah State, and Washington State.

Despite the lack of recruiting interest out of high school, Uluave gained 20-plus pounds of muscle after arriving in Berkeley and made an instant impact, earning Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors after appearing in 13 games, including starts over the final six games, finishing with 66 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, one of which Uluave returned for a touchdown, two interceptions, and three pass breakups.

In nine games in 2024, Uluave tallied 71 tackles, three tackles for loss, three passes defended, one interception, and a half sack before recording career and team highs of 90 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss (-35 yards), three sacks and six pass breakups in 2025 despite missing at least half of three games, including one full contest.

Texas has a pressing need at the position with Anthony Hill Jr. and Trey Moore heading to the 2026 NFL Draft and Liona Lefau and Bo Barnes entering the portal.
