Raspadori to Roma Gathers Pace as Player Consent Expected

Roma edge closer to Raspadori as talks progress, and the attacker is expected to give his approval tomorrow.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. While Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori always seemed like ideal fits for Gian Piero Gasperini’s struggling attack, the transfer rumor mill doesn’t move in a straight line. Instead of simply connecting Point A to Point B, we’ve been subjected to a circuitous cycle of denials, delays, and hopeful confirmations.

Take Zirkzee, for example. Given his limited playing time at Manchester United and Gasperini’s long-standing admiration for the Dutch forward, the transfer felt like a fait accompli. However, rather than seeing Zirkzee’s beaming smile at Fiumicino Airport, the past several weeks have seen him reportedly change his mind, either by choosing to fight for his place under Ruben Amorim or by United simply reversing course. And now that Amorim has been sacked, Zirkzee’s future is anyone’s guess.

Not to be outdone, the Raspadori-to-Roma transfer has also seen fits and starts, with the former Napoli player reluctant to give up life at Atletico Madrid after only six months. However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Raspadori has warmed up to Roma and may give the Giallorossi the green light as early as tomorrow.

Of course, Di Marzio noted that Napoli may try to hijack the deal at the 11th hour, so who knows? Still, it seems the Gasperini-Massara-Friedkin showdown lit a fire under the Roma brass.

As always, stay tuned!
