The Orange now have five transfers into the program
The Syracuse Orange picked up its next set of transfers on Wednesday. The first transfer committed to the Orange was Miami (OH) wide receiver Cole Weaver. Syracuse’s second committed transfer of the day was Jackson State running back Ahmad Miller. The day ended with Georgia State defensive tackle Jartavius Flounoy committing to Syracuse.
Weaver was the second leading receiver for Miami (OH) this past season. He recorded 642 receiving yards on 45 catches with one touchdown. He played six games in 2024 and redshirted in 2024. Weaver will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Miller earned First Team All-SWAC honors with Jackson State this past season. He led the conference in rushing with 1,027 yards in the regular season. Miller rushed for 1,365 yards on 217 carriers and nine touchdowns in his Jackson State career. He will also have three years of eligibility after only playing the first three games of the season due to an injury.
Flounoy is Syracuse’s first defensive player from the transfer portal this cycle. recorded 22 tackles last season for Georgia State. He played 11 games as a true freshman in 2025. Flounoy had six tackles for loss, which ranked second on the team. His position coach at Georgia State, Jeremy Hawkins, joined Syracuse this season as its defensive edges coach. Hawkins replaced Nick Williams, who left for the same position at Florida State.
Miller and Weaver weren’t highly recruited coming out of high school. Miller was unranked while Weaver only received one two-star rating from Rivals. Weaver hails from Roswell, Georgia and graduated from Blessed Trinity Catholic High School.
Miller comes from Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from Whitehaven High School. His brother, Aubrey was an All-American linebacker with Jackson State and recently won the Grey Cup in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Flounoy did receive more attention during his high school recruitment. He was a three-star recruit rated by On3, 247Sports and ESPN. The Moultrie, Georgia native graduated from Colquitt County High School.
Weaver is the first wide receiver to join the Orange from the transfer portal this cycle. Six Syracuse wide receivers had entered the transfer portal, which were Johntay Cook, Darrell Gill, Emmanuel Ross, Jaylen Hornsby, Gabe Daniels and Ja’Meer Thomas. Umari Hatcher had also entered the transfer portal but withdrew on Wednesday as well. Five players signed to join the Orange on National Signing Day, including five-star recruit Calvin Russell.
Miller is the second running back to commit to the Orange from the transfer portal this cycle. He joins LSU transfer Ju’Juan Johnson as running backs to transfer to Syracuse. The Orange saw four running backs leave the program this offseason. Yasin Willis, Malachi James and Jaden Hart all entered the transfer portal. Willis has reportedly committed to Kansas. Will Nixon applied for a waiver to play an additional season and got approved, but elected to declare for the NFL Draft.
Miller and Johnson join the Syracuse running back room of returners Tylik Hill, Malachi Coleman and Tyler Chandler. Signee Shavane Anderson also joins the running backs.
Syracuse’s defensive line didn’t lose as many key players to the transfer portal. Only three Orange defensive line players have entered the portal. However, key players like Dion Wilson, David Reese and George Rooks are out of eligibility and need to be replaced. Syracuse did sign five defensive line players on National Signing day, including four-star recruits Kamron Wilson, Jarius Rodgers and Alex Haskell.
Weaver, Miller and Flounoy are Syracuse’s third, fourth and fifth additions from the transfer portal this offseason. They join Johnson and South Carolina TE Michael Smith.
