New names to know as Tennessee continues to work in the transfer portal

An update on several names, both new and old.

It hasn’t been the week many were hoping for this week in the transfer portal for Tennessee, let’s be honest. The Volunteers missed out on targets like Adam Trick and Mateen Ibirogba to Texas Tech, while corner target Jaquez White took a higher deal with Virginia Tech. Making matters worse? Tennessee lost a key player in Jordan Ross to the portal, who is now visiting SEC rivals.

Tennessee has started to plug some holes, earning commitments from safety Qua Moss, cornerback Kayin Lee and right tackle Ory Williams. That should give the Volunteers three new starters, but the work is far from done.

Tennessee remaining needs in the transfer portal

  1. EDGE rushers
  2. Quarterback
  3. Defensive tackle
  4. Safety
  5. Cornerback
  6. Linebacker
  7. Running back

Tennessee transfer portal targets

Baylor RB Bryson Washington — The 6-0, 216 pound back has over 1,800 yards in the past two seasons with Baylor. He’s experienced as a pass catcher too, with 40 catches combined in 2024 and 2025. Tennessee will add one more body to this room out of the portal and Washington is expected to visit Tennessee on Friday.

Oregon State OL Dylan Sikorski — The 6-4, 332 pound guard is coming off of his redshirt freshman season for the Beavers, where he made six starts and appeared in ten games. Sikorski visited Tennessee on Wednesday and would give the Volunteers some legitimate depth in 2026 with longterm upside as a starter down the road.

Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt — Sorsby, Colandrea, Simpson are off the board. We know the deal here. Tennessee is playing the waiting game with Joey Aguilar and Leavitt’s options are narrowing. Leavitt’s Tennessee visit began late on Wednesday. LSU is a wrinkle here as they reported are trying to get Demon Williams out of his Washington contract. Oregon could also enter the picture.

Pitt DL Francis Brewu — The 6-2, 280 pound defensive lineman visited Tennessee on Wednesday. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Brewu had 36 tackles and a sack this season from his interior role.

Slippery Rock CB Kanye Thompson — The small school standout is down to Tennessee, Ohio State and Pittsburgh. Thompson is a track star and a productive player on the field, putting up 60 tackles and ten pass break-ups. He also forced four fumbles and came away with three sacks. Thompson arrived on Wednesday night for his Tennessee visit, where the Volunteers could use at least one more cornerback.

Alabama EDGE Qua Russaw — Tennessee was among the first to reach out to Russaw once he entered the portal this week. The former 4-star, top 75 overall prospect has two seasons of eligibility remaining and could step into a big-time role in Knoxville, with the Volunteers needing warm bodies at the position at this point.

Alabama DL James Smith — The 6-3, 297 pound defensive lineman is planning a visit to Tennessee. Smith is coming off of his junior season at Alabama where he’s been a main contributor for two seasons. Smith put up 26 tackles and 2.5 sacks during the 2025 campaign. Defensive line is another place where Tennessee could use a couple more bodies to round out the rotation.

Penn State LB Amare Campbell — Tennessee swung and missed on their first couple of linebacker targets, but Campbell could make everyone forget that. He’s got an obvious tie to Jim Knowles, which would help the learning curve as the roster shifts into his system. We haven’t seen any news on a visit just yet.

LSU WR Jelani Watkins — A legitimate track star, Watkins was connected to Tennessee upon hitting the portal. Tennessee doesn’t exactly need more receivers, but they could use the speed. Downfield threat Chris Brazzell is off to the NFL and the Volunteers don’t have anyone else like this on the roster. Perhaps he could help as a returner as well. Watkins is a former 4-star prospect.
