Former Bayern Munich player speaks on the influence of German giants

The FC Bayern alumnus played for the club between 2014 and 2018.

Juan Bernat is a name seldom mentioned when it comes to Bayern Munich alumni. The left-back was brought into Munich in 2014 and quickly emerged as a starter for the club, but was over time replaced by a young and promising Austrian. While Bernat might have lost his role to David Alaba, the Spanish defender left behind a significant mark in the Pep Guardiola Bayern era.

The Spaniard was recently asked about what it was like to play at Bayern Munich and had only good things to say. While it is no surprise to hear Bernat reflect positively on his time with Munich, it is refreshing to see the club get a bit of a PR boost in light of recent comments of wonderkid Lennart Karl.

“A true German institution. It’s a classy club with a massive structure. Bayern is football history. I had a wonderful time there, partly because Pep wanted me, which is always important for a player. I was not only wanted by a club like Bayern, but also at the request of a coach like Pep, who has been the biggest influence on my career,” Bernat told Diario AS per @iMiaSanMia.

Juan Bernat never quite hit the high potential showed in his early career, but the left-back saw a small career resurgence at Paris Saint-German before slowly fizzing out in Portugal and Spain in recent years. Bernat is not currently signed to any club and at 32 years old, might be reaching the twilight of his career. Best wishes to you, Juan!
