Bayern’s captain gave a contract extension update on a visit to a local fan club
As part of the annual tradition where Bayern Munich players visit fan clubs in and around Munich, Bayern captain, Manuel Neuer, was asked about a possible contract extension. The 39-year old world champion is on the final year of his current contract — set to expire this summer.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany shared Neuer’s remarks, “I’m positively inclined towards it. But for now, I want to wait and see how the next few months go. I want to try to show good performances. Then, towards the end of March or April, a decision will be made. By then, I’ll know how many games I’ve played and how my body feels.”
He went on to say, “I’ll also be turning 40, so you have to see whether you can make that decision with full conviction to continue. The exchange with the club is very good – then we’ll see whether it continues or not.” Neuer missed the final match of the Hinrunde with a hamstring injury. His age and fitness have to play a part in the brass’ decision to offer an extension.
At this point how are we feeling about a Neuer extension? Does it make sense or is it time to let someone else have a crack at being Bayern’s number one? If he leaves the club, who takes his place? Share your thoughts in the comments.
