He’s a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva
The loan switcheroos continue for Tottenham Hotspur. We wrote yesterday on reports that Yang Min-Hyeok was going to head to Coventry City on loan after being recalled from Portsmouth, and those reports have now officially become reality:
By all accounts, Yang was quite impressive in his time at Pompey, scoring three and assisting one in 16 appearances; and it’s that last number that is why Spurs have opted to make this move. Yang has been squarely behind Josh Murphy in the pecking order at Portsmouth, so has played very little; and the incentive for him to play is decreasing as they slide towards a potential relegation battle.
The fact then that Coventry City, who are at the top of the Championship, want Yang is a huge vote of confidence in his favor. He might not get much more playing time than at Portsmouth, but being part of a squad that is flying high can do wonders for development – especially one that is very short of wide cover in their quest for promotion to the Premier League following their League One title win in the 2019-20 season.
As for Yang, here’s his thoughts on the move:
I’m very happy and excited to join a club with such strong traditions and history.
When I played against Coventry, I really felt the positive atmosphere within the team, and that made me even more excited about becoming part of this club.
The Head Coach explained very clearly how he plans to use me and how I could fit into the team, which gave me a lot of confidence that this is the right place for me.
I want to help the team achieve its goal and to do that, I need to adapt as quickly as possible, show my qualities on the pitch, and prove why I am here.
Good luck Yang – I’m sure you’ll be fantastic at Coventry City!
