Boston signed Sikkema, a 27-year-old left-handed pitcher, to a minor league deal. New York selected him 38th overall in 2019 out of Missouri. The Yankees traded him and two other minor league pitchers to the Royals for Andrew Benintendi on July 27, 2022.
Sikkema has spent time in the Yankees, Royals and Reds organizations.
He pitched in the Reds minor league system last year, posting a 4.57 ERA in 23 outings (15 starts) between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville. He had a 3.47 ERA in his five outings (four starts) at Triple A.
He has recorded a 4.57 ERA in 100 minor league outings (51 starts).
Other non-roster invitees announced are pitchers Osvaldo Berrios, Alec Gamboa, Hobie Harris and Devin Sweet, catcher Jason Delay and infielder Vinny Capra.
Harris, a 32-year-old righty, pitched at Triple-A Worcester last year, posting a 4.15 ERA in 31 relief outings. He appeared in 16 major league games with the Nationals in 2023 and had a 5.12 ERA.
Gamboa, a 28-year-old lefty, spent last year pitching for the Dodgers’ Triple A affiliate in Oklahoma City and in South Korea. He finished with a 3.58 ERA in his 19 starts for Lotte of the KBO League.
Delay, a 30-year-old right-handed hitter, has appeared in 134 career major league games, including making 107 starts at catcher for the Pirates from 2022-24.
Sweet, a 29-year-old righty, has pitched in seven major league games, all coming in 2023 with the Mariners and Athletics. He spent 2025 with Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley. In 51 ⅓ innings over 46 games (two starts), Sweet logged a 5.08 ERA. He struck out 49 batters and walked 27 and was on the 40-man roster through July before being designated for assignment.
The 29-year-old Capra has appeared in 67 major league games for the Blue Jays, Pirates, Brewers and White Sox. He played in 47 games between the Brewers and White Sox last year, batting .125 (12 for 96).
