Oregon’s depth at running back took a significant hit just days before its College Football Playoff semifinal against Indiana.

The Ducks are expected to be without standout freshman Jordon Davison after he suffered a broken clavicle, according to Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian.

Oregon has not announced an official injury status, but a collarbone injury typically sidelines running backs because of the constant contact required at the position.

The setback comes at a critical time for Oregon, who face Indiana on Friday in the Peach Bowl, with a berth in the national championship game at stake.

Oregon was already thin at the position after Makhi Hughes and Jayden Limar entered the transfer portal ahead of the semifinal. Davison’s injury further depletes what had been one of the nation’s deepest backfields throughout the season.

Davison scored 15 touchdowns in a breakout freshman campaign and emerged as a key goal-line option. He accounted for both of Oregon’s touchdowns in a 23-0 shutout of Texas Tech and averaged 9.0 yards per carry in a rout of James Madison earlier this season.

With Davison unlikely to play, Oregon is expected to rely primarily on Noah Whittington and Dierre Hill Jr. out of the backfield, not only against Indiana but potentially for the remainder of its CFP run.
