The German midfielder weighs La Liga opportunity as his contract runs out
Leon Goretzka could be on FC Barcelona’s radar for the summer transfer window, according to reports. The 30-year-old midfielder, who finishes his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of this season, is free to negotiate with other clubs starting January 1st. While he has multiple options, his desire to reunite with Hansi Flick, now at Barcelona, has reporedtly sparked interest in Spain.
Goretzka was a key figure under Flick at Bayern, contributing to the team’s historic sextuple of trophies. It’s precisely this connection that the German is said to value highly.
Sky Sports Germany reports that “Barcelona has Goretzka on their list of possible signings if he becomes a free agent this summer,” noting that Napoli is also showing interest.
Despite those signs, Barcelona may not view midfield reinforcement as an immediate priority. Their current roster is packed with players like Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Olmo, Fermín López, Marc Casadó, and Marc Bernal, alongside Eric Garcia, who can play the midfield role, and the emergence of youngster Tommy Marqués as a potential alternative. Still, a high-profile departure or a shift in the squad could open a spot, which could in turn make Goretzka a viable option for the 2026-27 season.
At Bayern, Goretzka’s role has diminished this season, with 23 appearances totaling 1108 minutes. Reports say the player is in no rush to decide, weighing his options carefully while keen to explore new experiences. For Barcelona, an agreement would be largely opportunistic, being able to snag an experienced player without a transfer fee.
