2025 has been a season to remember for Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, who has firmly cemented himself as one of MLB's top players at his position. Wheeler's age-35 campaign, which has already included a trip to the All-Star Game, became even more memorable following his most recent start against the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
Wheeler was unable to record his 10th victory of the season in what would be a 3-2 win for the Phillies – which was clinched on a catcher's interference call on Carlos Narváez, the first of its kind since 1971 – but he still put up a strong individual performance. He allowed two runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and zero walks across six innings pitched.
In the process, Wheeler accomplished a feat unseen from a Phillies hurler in over a century.
According to MLB analyst Sarah Langs, Wheeler's outing against the Red Sox marked the fifth time he has recorded 10 or more strikeouts and zero walks in a start this season. In the last 125 years, no Phillies pitcher has equaled that mark.
Langs also noted that Wheeler's string of 10-plus-strikeout, zero-walk performances is unmatched. Wheeler has logged 12 such starts since signing with the team ahead of the 2020 season, two more than any other Phillies pitcher during that 125-year span.

Through 20 starts this season, Wheeler has accumulated a 9-3 record, 2.39 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 164 strikeouts and 26 walks across 128 innings pitched. According to Baseball Reference, Wheeler's 5.0 WAR ranks fourth in the league behind only New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (6.9), Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (5.7), and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes (5.3).
