The RedHawks are the last undefeated mid-major at 15-0
Miami (OH) is the last undefeated mid-major team and has joined the top 10 at No. 8 of the Men’s Other Top 25. The RedHawks sit a perfect 15-0 this season.
They defeated Akron 76-73 Saturday to move to 3-0 in the MAC. Miami (OH) is scoring 93.7 points per game and shooting an insane 53.6% from the field. It ranks ninth in the country in scoring offense and leads the nation in field goal percentage, just a half of a percentage point ahead of fellow unbeatens Michigan and Iowa St. The RedHawks’ 63.4% effective field goal percentage is tops nationally as well, 13 points ahead of No. 2.
Miami (OH) is 57th in the NET, 98th in KenPom and 99th in BartTorvik. Just three of its wins are against teams above Quad 4.
Nevada also joined the top 10 this week as the Wolf Pack are No. 7 this week. Steve Alford’s team holds an 11-3 record and has won seven straight games. It has wins over San Francisco, UC San Diego, Boise St. and Colorado St.
The Wolf Pack are 66th in Torvik, 67th in the NET and 72nd in KenPom. During this seven-game win streak they are 32nd in Torvik, the second highest rated mid-major (behind New Mexico at 26).
The Mountain West had four of the top 10, led by Utah St., who claimed the top spot for a third straight week. San Diego St. came in at six, followed by Nevada at seven and New Mexico ninth.
The Atlantic 10 also featured four teams in the top 10. Saint Louis was second and earned one first-place vote. VCU and George Mason were back-to-back at four and five. Dayton dropped one spot to 10.
Three teams joined the poll after not being ranked last week: Northern Iowa (No. 19), George Washington (No. 24) and Buffalo (No. 25).
