Arsenal have completed the signing of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.
The 21-year-old joins on a five-year deal, with the option of an extra year, after the two clubs agreed an initial fee of around £13 million (€15m).
That figure could rise to €20 million if a number of performance-related clauses are met.
Mosquera becomes Arsenal’s fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Martín Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The young centre-back made a name for himself last season at Valencia, where he missed just one league match and established himself as a key part of the back line. In total, he racked up 90 senior appearances for the club, having come through their academy system.
At international level, the highly rated centre-back has earned 11 caps for Spain’s Under-21s, starting every match for his country at this summer’s U21 European Championship, before they were eliminated by England in the quarter-finals.
While predominantly a right-sided centre-half, Mosquera is also comfortable playing on the left, making him a valuable option for Mikel Arteta as the Arsenal boss looks to bolster his back line. He’ll be competing with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães for a spot in the starting XI.
