Real Madrid close door on January signings despite acute crisis

It was Real Madrid’s defence that ran short on ammunition in the first half of the ongoing season.

This was because Antonio Rudiger missed the first part of the season due to injury, Davia Alaba was perpetually ruled out, Eder Militao faced considerable time on the sidelines, and even Dean Huijsen was relatively fragile from a fitness standpoint.

As it stands, all signs indicate that Real Madrid’s attack forms a similar bottleneck in the early part of the second half of the season.

The year 2026 began in the worst possible way for Los Blancos as Kylian Mbappe was ruled out for three weeks and is likely to miss the Spanish Super Cup.

Further, Real Madrid sent out Endrick on loan to France, while Brahim Diaz is on AFCON duty with Morocco.

No transfer planned

As relayed by MARCA in a recent report, even Mbappe, Diaz and Endrick’s unavailability together is not enough for Real Madrid to change their stance on the January transfer window.

Florentino Perez and Co. are clear that no signing will be made in the winter.

The club fully believe in the current squad and the depth Xabi Alonso has at his disposal, and thus do not see it necessary to splash the cash on a winter forward signing. The decision, thus, has been made.

What Alonso’s side now needs is for more players to take goal-scoring responsibility. After all, it is simply not feasible to run through the season dependent on Mbappe to score all the goals.

The pressure on Vinicius Jr. now amplifies, and he must deliver in the Frenchman’s absence in the coming games.

Further, the management will also hope that the likes of Franco Mastantuono and Gonzalo Garcia can step up more.

While the former spent a long time injured towards the end of 2025, the latter has simply not had many minutes in the season.
