Dennis Beyer reports that Mainz 05 have now tendered an offer for VfB Stuttgart outcast Silas Katompa Mvumpa. With the January 2026 transfer window now officially open, the Congolese attacker has also been linked with a move to 2. Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96.Beyer reports that Mainz approached Stuttgart with an offer for Silas that did not include a transfer fee, only performance related bonuses to be rendered this summer.
According to the Sky Germany journalist, Stuttgart rejected this offer and are demanding a €1.5m transfer fee. Mainz – who have already shelled out €4m for struggling Augsburg striker Phillip Tietz – may be amenable to such a deal. Despite his many on and off pitch issues, Silas remains an experienced Bundesliga professional with an estimated market value of €3m. The 27-year-old also has 21 German top flight goals to his credit.
Will Silas move to Mainz?
Bundesliga journalists can assess the probability of this transfer going through as high. Even after the Tietz acquisition, Mainz are still operating with a large transfer surplus from last summer. The Bundesliga’s last-placed side desperately needs budget-friendly solutions in attack. Silas has actually been fit for months and there’s very little reason that Mainz won’t take a chance on a player with such little financial risk.
Silas sits on an expiring contract with his current Bundesliga club and Stuttgart have no use for him. Silas managed to prove a prolific enough scorer whilst on loan with Red Star Belgrade last season. In his last season as a semi-Bundesliga regular (2023/24), Silas scored seven goals and contributed six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
