Penn State picked up its second Top 10 win of the season
Women’s Hockey (18-1)
In the team’s first game after the holiday pause, Matilde Fantin scored the only goal of the game late in the third period to lift No. 4 Penn State to a 1-0 win over No. 10 Cornell:
Katie DeSa made 35 saves in her seventh shutout of the season to help the Nittany Lions pick up a critical win for their hopes of gaining a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. Penn State picked up its second top 10 win of the season and ran its record to 18-1.
Earlier today, forward Tessa Janecke was named to the United States Olympic women’s hockey team.
Penn State will travel to Columbus for a monster series with No. 2 Ohio State tonight (6pm on Big Ten Plus) and Saturday (3:30pm on Big Ten Plus).
Women’s Basketball (7-7)
After splitting its road trip in Richmond before Christmas, the women’s basketball team dropped its first two conference games of the season, a 99-76 loss to Iowa and a 97-61 loss to UCLA.
Gracie Merkle recorded a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) against Iowa, but the defense was disastrous in the first two Big Ten games. Penn State has yielded 90 points or more in all three of its games against ranked teams, and its average margin of defeat in those three games is an astonishing 33 points.
Penn State will travel to Wisconsin on Sunday (4pm on Big Ten Network).
