Liverpool took the decison to offload several midfield talents last summer.
We saw outgoing deals concluded for James McConnell and Harvey Elliott - who left on loan - while Tyler Morton was sold to Lyon.
Another player who was loaned out is Luca Stephenson. The 22-year-old had spent the previous campaign with Dundee United in Scotland - impressing as their young player of the year.
Defying predictions that he had no future at Anfield, the young Englishman ended up signing a new contract last summer and was also brought into the side for preseason.
Luca Stephenson impressing on loan
Stephenson then concluded another loan move to Dundee United - where has once again been excellent. Indeed with Elliott, McConnell and others struggling, there is little doubt that Stephenson is the best Liverpool performer out on loan this term.

His form has led to speculation that Liverpool may well seek to cash in next summer. A new report in the Athletic now claims that several Championship clubs are sniffing around Stephenson with a view to concluding a deal in 2026.
Championship clubs chasing Luca Stephenson
“Stephenson is Liverpool’s best-performing loan player and is growing in value during a second season in Scotland,” the report reads.
“Liverpool extended the 22-year-old right-back’s contract by a further 12 months before he rejoined Dundee United and he’s transformed from the young player of the season to the best player of the season so far.
“Stephenson is expected to see out the campaign at Tannadice but is attracting interest from Championship clubs and is expected to leave Liverpool on a permanent deal in the summer.”
Stephenson signed for the Reds’ academy from Sunderland back in 2018 - inking a first professional deal back in 2020. This season he has been in very good form for the Tangerines - giving Liverpool a chance to receive a cash boost for his services next summer.
