The Rekordmeister mindset makes a difference
From Bayern Munich’s perspective, confidence in Europe is starting to become tangible again, and Jonathan Tah’s recent comments only reinforce that mood.
After Bayern’s nearly flawless Champions League run (Arteta and his darned set pieces…), which has already featured heavyweight clashes against Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Chelsea, a interviewer put the obvious question to Tah in a report captured by @iMiaSanMia: do those performances strengthen the belief that Bayern can go all the way and win the competition?
Tah didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely. When you compete against the best, you get a sense of where you stand. That gives the team a lot of confidence,” he said. For Bayern fans, that’s exactly the mentality you want to hear at this stage of the tournament. These weren’t comfortable group-stage cake walks; they were high-level tests, and Bayern, for the most part, passed them.
It even looks like the loss to Arsenal hasn’t shaken that belief inside the squad. “Even against Arsenal, despite the defeat, we didn’t feel like they were much better than us,” Tah explained. Bayern have often been at their most dangerous when they feel challenged rather than humbled. According to Tah, the reaction after the match was simple and forward-looking: “After the match, we were more like: Okay, next time. Let’s play Arsenal again!”
When the reporter floated the idea of that rematch happening on the biggest stage possible, the UCL final, Tah leaned into it. “Exactly. That would be a great final against Arsenal.”
For Bayern, this Champions League campaign has been about measuring themselves against Europe’s elite, and realizing they still belong at the very top. If this confidence translates onto the pitch in the knockout rounds, Bayern won’t just be participants. They’ll be genuine contenders, dreaming of another European night to remember.
