The Serie A January transfer window is almost upon us, and so here is a look back on the most expensive incoming players in the history of the division.
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic remains the most expensive Serie A signing of all time when he swapped La Viola for the Bianconeri in the winter of 2022. The Serbian is still on the same four-and-a-half year contract that he signed that window, which is now set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Juventus also claim the second-most expensive Serie A signing of all time with their purchase of Dejan Kulusevski from Atalanta in the winter of 2020. The Old Lady reportedly paid a fee of €35m plus bonuses to sign the Swede, and turned a profit after his move to Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs reportedly paid a loan fee of €10m plus a buy-out fee of around €35m in 2022 and 2023.

Milan and Juventus are tied for the most entries on the list of the top 10 most expensive Serie A signings of all time. Milan’s signing of Lucas Paqueta from Flamengo in 2019 ranks third on the all-time list, the signing of Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa in the same window ranks fourth, and last season’s signing of Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord ranks in fifth.
Inter feature on the list twice, with their signing of Clarence Seedorf from Real Madrid in the 1999-2000 season, the ‘oldest’ deal to feature on the all-time list, plus their signing of Christian Eriksen from Inter in 2019-20.
Napoli’s signing of Stanislav Lobotka from Celta Vigo in 2019-20 also features.
