Cubs position player pitchers: Tommy La Stella

TLS threw well enough, though he did serve up a home run ball.

Tommy La Stella is the third Cubs position player who pitched in a single game in 2018, and I did these sort of out of order, alphabetically instead of in the order they appeared.

So TLS was the first of the three position players (followed by Victor Caratini and Ian Happ) to pitch July 20, 2018 in an 18-5 loss to the Cardinals.

He came into the game just after Brian Duensing served up a three-run homer to Matt Carpenter that put St. Louis ahead 15-1. TLS ended the inning by getting Yadier Molina to fly to deep center [VIDEO] — on his first pitch!

Even though that ball was hit a long way, it was an out.

This one was hit farther, in the next inning, by Greg Garcia [VIDEO].

LaStella then allowed a single, but followed that up with this double-play ball [VIDEO].

Another single and fly ball ended the inning, and that also ended La Stella’s MLB pitching career.

This series will continue on Friday.
