Safeties Coach Vic Hall Leaves Rutgers For Job at Virginia Tech

Rutgers continues to clean house on defensive coaches as safeties coach Vic Hall takes job at Virginia Tech.

Rutgers safeties coach Vic Hall is leaving Rutgers, as he has decided to take another coaching job at Virginia Tech. He joins cornerbacks coach David Rowe, defensive line coach Colin Ferrell, linebackers coach/ co-defensive coordinator Zach Sparber, and Robb Smith as Rutgers defensive coaches from last season who will not be with the team next season. Hall had one year left on his initial two-year contract with Rutgers before his departure.

The safety play for the Scarlet Knights was a disaster last season. The two starting safeties, Jett Elad and Kaj Sanders, surrendered a total of 40 receptions for 669 yards and 7 touchdowns, while be rating some of the worst players in the FBS at their positions by ProFootballFocus. There were repeated arguments between the two before the plays, seemingly confused even about where to line up. This was a new occurrence for both of these players, as Sanders showed a lot of positive potential during his freshman season last year, and Elad was one of the best safeties in the group of five. Change was needed to get this position back on track.

Now that Hall has departed, the Knights are expected to start searching for a coach to fill his role effective immediately.

Hall’s coaching timeline includes being a Penn State analyst last season and three seasons teaching defensive backs at Ball State. He will now join James Franklin’s new staff down in Blacksburg, VA, as the nickel’s coach.
