Manchester United join race to sign Real Madrid midfield target

Dutch midfield prodigy Kees Smit raised many eyebrows recently by publicly admitting his desire to move to a bigger club next summer.

The youngster even went on to claim that he could be available for just €30 million, amid interest from a slew of top clubs across Europe.

Needless to say, Real Madrid are among the clubs interested in the services of the AZ Alkmaar prodigy, who is also being closely tracked by clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City, among others.

Manchester United enter race to sign Smit

A recent report from journalist Graeme Bailey suggests Manchester United have also entered the race to sign Kees Smit from Alkmaar next summer.

It is no secret that the Red Devils require reinforcements in midfield next season, with both Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo yet to play a critical role in Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Former Real Madrid star Casemiro is not getting any younger either and will turn 34 in two months’ time, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Man United, therefore, are expected to make a move for young Kees Smit, who has impressed onlookers with his technical qualities in the middle of the park.

This will make things all the more difficult for a Real Madrid team looking to find someone who can alleviate pressure off Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde.

The two midfielders have been forced to feature prominently in the Real Madrid setup amid Eduardo Camavinga’s injury woes, thus accentuating the need for another option like Smit.

While the Dutchman’s potential price tag of €30 million makes him an attractive option for Los Blancos, the club will have some convincing to do, if they are to lure the youngster to Bernabeu despite interest from clubs like Man United, Man City and Chelsea, among others.
