NFL Week 18 opening odds: Eagles favored by more than a touchdown at home

Will the Birds play to win in the regular season finale? Here’s a potential clue.

The Philadelphia Eagles have opened as 7.5-point home favorites against the Washington Commanders in Week 18, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

We’ve yet to learn of the Eagles’ official intentions when it comes to playing starters or not but this line seems to suggest they’re not just going to fold with the No. 2 seed potentially available to them. Or maybe it’s about the Birds’ backups being able to beat Washington anyway.

Elsewhere of interest to the Eagles, the Chicago Bears are just 1.5-point home favorites against the Detroit Lions in Week 18. Surprised the Bears aren’t favored by more since they have motivation to win to secure the No. 2 seed and the Lions have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Seems like the odds-makers are expecting Dan Campbell’s team to put up a fight regardless.

If you parlay the Eagles’ moneyline and the Lions’ moneyline together, the odds for that scenario are +160. It’s not likely, no, but it’s hardly far-fetched.

The thinking here is the Eagles will be playing to win in Week 18. The Commanders might not merely lay down after not liking how Philly beat them in Week 16. But their effort might not matter much with Josh Johnson potentially starting at quarterback for them.

I think the Eagles win and cover, perhaps even if Tanner McKee and the backups play most of the game. What say you?
