Illinois’ Humrichous on midseason wedding: ‘It was beautiful’

A big week for Big Ben.

It was quite the eventful week for Illinois’ Ben Humrichous.

On Monday, he helped Illinois to a record-setting win over Missouri in the annual Braggin’ Rights game.

On Tuesday, he married former Illini women’s basketball player Adalia McKenzie.

“It was beautiful. A ton of fun. Adalia looked beatiful. It was awesome,” Humrichous said Sunday ahead of the Illini’s final non-conference showdown against Southern. “The gospel was proclaimed. We planned a wedding in three months, so I wasn’t sure how a lot of it would go, but it was exactly how God wanted it to be and it was fun.”

Humrichous, in his final year of college basketball, also said he recognizes some of the challenges that will come with his new life in marriage.

“I’m excited to see how it goes,” Humrichous said. “I can only imagine part of it being married presents new challenges or releases a lot of challenges for me. But what’s been great is I’m able to compartmentalize. When I go home, I’m going to be home. Hopefully it brings new challenges, but answers a lot of prayers.”

Some members of the Illini program attended Tuesday’s wedding, including head coach Brad Underwood.
