Mike Vrabel explains heated halftime exchange with Christian Barmore

Mike Vrabel needed to calm down an angry Christian Barmore before the half.

Tempers flared right before halftime of the Patriots 42-10 blowout win over the New York Jets.

TV cameras flashed to Mike Vrabel trying to keep a heated Christian Barmore calm.

The Patriots defensive tackle was apparently angered after a Jets offensive lineman (Armand Membou) hit him after the play was over. Referees came in to try and keep order.

Vrabel was asked about the exchange with Barmore after the game. He chalked it up to trying to maintain order, and reminding Barmore what was at stake.

“I was just reminding everybody to keep their composure,” said Vrabel, who was walking and talking with Barmore as the Patriots headed off the field. “We have an identity we’ve shown, and that we’ve put out there on the football field, and to make great decisions for the football team.

“We don’t want to give people free yards. That was it. Just a reminder.”

Vrabel, who rushed out toward Barmore and the fray with Membou when tempers initially flared, added that he thought the referees handled the skirmish well.

“They did a great job,” Vrabel said. “The referee came over there that both him (Barmore) and everybody else were doing a good job trying not to get into anything after the whistle and after the play. I appreciate that. It was just a reminder.”
