London City Lionesses sign Arsenal attacker Godfrey

London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Arsenal attacker Freya Godfrey on a permanent deal.

The Pride announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 20-year-old returns to Hayes Lane on a permanent basis after impressing in a loan spell in the second half of last season. Godfrey has signed a three-year deal with The Pride.

Godfrey made eight appearances for London City Lionesses last season, helping the club win the Barclays WSL2 title and promotion to the top tier.

On the international stage, Godfrey has represented England up to and including Under-23 level.

After joining London City Lionesses, Godfrey said “To be honest, I’m just over the moon. I think last season was a great experience for me and it is definitely something I want to continue with, so I am very happy to be back.

“The last game of last season was the highlight of my career, it was such a tough game, we fought so hard and that made the result ten times better. The joy and relief at the end was insane.

“This season is about showing everyone what we’re about, obviously we’ve made some big statement signings, it shows how ambitious the club is. I’m excited to get into the WSL.”

Godfrey is London City Lionesses’ eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
