There appears to be no slowing down the momentum surrounding Vinicius Jr., as a recent report from Mundo Deportivo has confirmed that the Real Madrid star’s links with Saudi Arabia remain very much alive.

Despite the passage of time and Vinicius’ continued importance at the Bernabeu, the interest from the Middle East has never truly faded.

At the beginning of 2025, whispers around his Saudi links grew louder when it was revealed that the Brazilian had not fully ruled out the idea of a future move to Saudi Arabia, particularly if Madrid failed to meet his expectations regarding a contract renewal.

Context of the story

Around that time, serious steps were reportedly taken because this was not a casual approach.

According to the report, Vinicius himself took part in a 15-minute videoconference with highly influential representatives of the Saudi Arabian Royal Family.

During that conversation, the forward reportedly listened carefully as both financial and sporting proposals were laid out, along with broader social ambitions linked to the project.

That meeting was not the end of it. Further evidence suggests that a face-to-face encounter in Prague also took place, where Vinicius’ representatives sat down with Saad Al Lazeez, the vice president of the Saudi Pro League.

The figures discussed are nothing short of staggering. The proposal reportedly includes a total package of €1 billion over five seasons, which would see Vinicius earn around €200 million per season

There is a bigger motive

All of this forms part of a wider strategy being driven by the Saudi government and key sporting executives, with the 2034 World Cup firmly in mind.

Signing global superstars is seen as essential to elevating the league’s profile ahead of that landmark event.

While no final decision has been made, clarity is expected in the coming months.

For now, Real Madrid remain calm. Vinicius is under contract until 2027, and any club wishing to sign him before then would need to activate his €1 billion release clause.

He remains a star at the Bernabeu, but with growing attention on Kylian Mbappe, there is a sense that shifting dynamics could test the pride of the Brazilian superstar.
