Seahawks announce Week 17 game captains vs. Panthers, including two locals

North Carolina natives Jarran Reed and Drake Thomas are two of the Seahawks’ game captains for Week 17.

On Friday, the Seattle Seahawks announced their selection of Week 17 game captains ahead of Sunday’s matchup vs. the Carolina Panthers.

This week’s captains are running back Kenneth Walker III, nose tackle Jarran Reed, and linebacker Drake Thomas. Thomas will be making his third appearance as a game captain this season, having last played with the “C” on his chest during Weeks 3 and 10. In addition, Reed and Walker will both be captains for the second time this season, previously serving as game captains in Weeks 5 and 14, respectively.

Reed and Thomas are both originally from North Carolina, with Thomas having played college football at N.C. State. Perhaps they can provide Seattle with some good mojo heading into Charlotte as the Seahawks hope to stymie the Panthers’ playoff hopes in the penultimate week of the regular season.

Walker played a vital role in Seattle’s overtime triumph over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16, collecting his second 100-yard game on the ground this year and a touchdown in the third quarter, as well as three receptions for 64 yards in the air. Although Zach Charbonnet leads the team in rushing TDs (9), Walker is ahead in both yards (879) and carries (190).

Reed missed four games in November due to wrist and thumb injuries, but has looked good since his return to action in Week 14. Over the last three games, the 33-year-old nose tackle has recorded 10 tackles and a tackle for loss, providing five tackles and the aforementioned TFL vs. the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.

Thomas has had a breakout year on the Seahawks’ defense this season, having appeared in all 15 games up to this point. Entering Week 17, the third-year linebacker has totaled 86 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six QB hits, and six passes defended. Thomas had a standout performance in Seattle’s win over the Rams last week, ending the night with a season-high 13 tackles.

The Seahawks will face the Panthers at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium at 10:00 a.m. PT on Sunday.
