Earlier this year, transfer QB Tommy Castellanos called out Alabama ahead of the Week 1 FSU matchup. After being criticized for his comments, the QB didn't back down but did explain himself on Wednesday.
In Week 1, the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Florida State Seminoles, who are led by former Boston College QB Tommy Castellanos. The QB did not back down in calling out his eventual opponent despite their historical status and preseason rankings.
In fact, he specifically called out that historical status, saying that they wouldn't have Nick Saban to save them this time. After some backlash for the comments, the FSU star said Wednesday that he didn't mean any disrespect, but he's not taking back his comments.
"We stand on what I said. I said what I said and we stand on that. I don't mean no disrespect to none of those guys at Alabama or anything like that. I have confidence in my guys and the work we've been putting in and preparing and the preparation we've been putting together. That's all that was. No disrespect to those guys but we stand on what I said," he said firmly.
Florida State had a really bad year last year, and Castellanos, a newcomer, was just trying to hype them up for one of their biggest matchups of the season. Alabama will visit Florida State, and Castellanos wants his teammates ready. "Them boys are coming off 2-10; I just wanted to instill some confidence," Castellanos added. "I'm trying to get my boys ready to go. I'm trying to make it the biggest stage."
Head coach Mike Norvell has said he likes what he sees from Castellanos, including the leadership the QB has attempted to display while calling out the Crimson Tide.
