BREAKING: Honesdale Area Jaycees Holiday Basketball Tournament postponed

Wayne Highlands athletic director Shawn Knash has announced that Day 1 of the Honesdale Area Jaycees Holiday Basketball Tournament has been postponed.

HONESDALE — The impending winter storm has already begun impacting the local high school sports schedule.

The 2025 Honesdale Area Jaycees Holiday Basketball Tournament, which had been slated to start tonight, has officially been postponed.

According to Wayne Highlands athletic director Shawn Knash, this year’s tourney — which was originally set for Dec. 26-27 — will be moved back to Saturday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Dec. 29.

The 65th annual event will feature Honesdale, Wallenpaupack Area, Western Wayne and East Stroudsburg South in the boys bracket. The Hornets, Bucks and Wildcats will be joined by Forest City in the girls division.

Action is now scheduled to begin Saturday night with Paupack and Western Wayne tipping off the initial girls game at 5:45 p.m. Next up will be Forest City versus Honesdale, starting at about 7:15 p.m.

Boys action commences at 6:30 p.m. with Paupack battling East Stroudsburg South. The Day One nightcap features Honesdale against Western Wayne at approximately 8 p.m.

The 2025 Honesdale Area Jaycees Holiday Basketball Tournament has been postponed. Day 1 of the 65th annual event is now set for Saturday, Dec. 27 at Honesdale. Day 2 will be Monday, Dec. 29.

Consolation contests and championship games will take place on Monday starting at 5:45 p.m. for the girls and 6:30 p.m. for the boys.

“Please come out to support our teams as they compete for the coveted title,” said tournament co-chair Julia Parlier. “We truly appreciate our community’s support of our event each year. We would not be able to do what we do without them.”

A holiday hoops tradition

The Jaycees hosted their first basketball tournament in 1960. It is one of the oldest holiday athletic events in the state.

Honesdale holds the all-time mark for boys Jaycees titles with 18. Paupack, which copped the crown last winter, is a close second with 16.

The girls bracket didn't come into existence until 1985. Honesdale won that initial event and 10 of the first 12. The Hornets are the reigning girls champions and have won the most titles with 18. Paupack is second with 13.
