As Ohio State turns its attention to the College Football Playoffs, here is what some of your favorites would have under the tree if I were in charge.
Turning the Ohio State Football team into a family around the Christmas Tree is something that we simply have to do on this Christmas morning. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, we can all get behind giving gifts to our favorite Buckeyes ahead of their impending college football playoff run.
Each of the Buckeyes landed on the "nice" list this year and is well deserving of a present this postseason.
Julian Sayin
For Sayin, the redshirt freshman landed near the top of the nice list this year. There isn't much that his game lacks. He can make every throw on the field; there is no window that is too small and no throw that he cannot make on the field.
Wrapped up in a box this year is the clutch gene. Sayin had two opportunities to win the Indiana game for the Buckeyes and came up short twice. Sayin's gift for the playoff run is the clutch gene. Be great in big spots. That's how legends are born, and Sayin might take that next step over the next month.
Jeremiah Smith
Santa's elves in the North Pole have been working overtime on a new quad for Jeremiah Smith. Ryan Day said in his media availability that Smith had to really grind to get ready for The Game a month ago and battled through injury almost all year. Can we get him a health quad for the playoffs?
Bo Jackson
This freshman has got the goods to be the guy in Columbus. It took several weeks for Jackson to take over as the guy in Columbus, but when he did, he never looked back. He doesn't need much; he is the total package at running back, so he just gets a stocking stuffer. That stocking stuffer is a fifth gear. Jackson only has four gears to get to and lacks a little bit of that complete breakaway speed.
That comes with time, and he is still just over a year removed from an ACL injury in his senior year of high school. He is going to get there, but it would be cool if he got there this year.
Caleb Downs
What do you give a guy who has it all? Downs is the perfect player, so we had to think really hard about his Christmas gift for this year, but I think we got a good one. We are gifting him only a couple of missed tackles from the guys in front of him.
Downs is the best player in College Football, but doesn't get to show it because the guys in front of him are too good. We are giving him a couple of Sonny Styles missed tackles so that Downs can make a couple of plays himself.
Sonny Styles
Since we gave Sonny Styles the equivalent of a lump of coal for Caleb, he has the big shiny gift under the tree. For his sacrifice, he is being gifted the play of the playoffs. We don't know what game it will be, but he will have a Jack Sawyer touchdown-type play this playoff run. He has been the leader of the defense and this team all year, and he is going to make the play that everyone remembers.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from BuckeyeRoundtable!
