If there’s one thing more divisive than which NFL team you support, it’s which political party you support. While some fans are eager to distance their political opinions from their love of their favorite teams, there’s no denying that worlds of football and politics often cross over, whether it’s Colin Kaepernick’s famous national anthem protests, or Donald Trump recently being booed at a Washington Commanders game.
With that in mind, InGame decided to find out which NFL teams have the most politically active fans. By researching social media discussions from each team’s followers, we were able to identify which audiences were the most likely to get involved with political discourse online and which sides they often favored. Read on to find out if your favorite team made the cut, as well as which side of the political spectrum they tend to lean towards.
Which NFL fanbases are the most politically charged?
We tracked how many NFL fans mentioned the Democratic and Republican parties, as well as key political figures from both parties, on social media. Each team was then assigned a score from 0 to 50, with higher scores indicating more political discussion among their fans. These are the ten highest-scoring NFL teams on our index.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
With a score of 47.3 out of 50, the Kansas City Chiefs have the most politically active fans on social media of any NFL team. We found a total of 202,000 political posts by their fans between November 2024 and December 2025, with a mostly equal split in opinion.
The negative sentiment towards both parties seems to be tied, with both Republicans and Democrats being mentioned negatively in 35% of the posts we found. Republican political figures were a particular talking point, with 116,000 mentions across our findings (8% were positive, 35% were negative).
2. Philadelphia Eagles
Landing in second place is the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite ranking behind the Chiefs with a score of 46.6 out of 50 on our index, Eagles fans are actually more vocal about their politics than any other team in the league, with 213,000 total posts in our data. However, the difference in how much each team’s fanbase varies in their politics knocks the Eagles down a few marks for a silver-medal finish.
3. Washington Commanders
With Northwest Stadium just a stone’s throw away from the Capitol and other important political institutions, it’s no surprise that the Commanders would earn a spot on our list. While discussion of Republican politics seems to dominate the fan base (the Republican Party was mentioned 10 times more than the Democratic Party), Commanders supporters posted more than 130,000 political opinions on social media, according to our findings, making them the third-most politically involved team with an index score of 40.9.
4. Denver Broncos
Scoring 34.7 out of 50 in our rankings, the Denver Broncos rank fourth among the most active fanbases in political discussions. Despite a relatively low number of posts across the board, the team’s fans seem incredibly opinionated, as shown by the Republican Party being mentioned negatively in a massive 66% of posts that we analyzed.
5. Detroit Lions
Finishing the top five is the Detroit Lions, whose fans earn them a total score of 33.0 in our rankings of the most politically charged NFL fanbases. Like with many other teams, Republican political figures seemed to be a particular point of discussion, as Lions fans mentioned some of the party’s most prominent politicians 37,000 times.
6. Dallas Cowboys
In sixth place, the Dallas Cowboys score 32.2 out of 50, narrowly missing out on a space in the top five. Interestingly, the Cowboys were the only team in our data where positive mentions of the Democratic Party outweighed negative mentions. However, the team still clearly has fans from across the political spectrum.
7. Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings rank as the seventh most politically charged NFL fanbase, with a final score of 31.9 out of 50 on our index. With around 35,000 posts tracked in total, we found that the Democratic Party was discussed in almost a third of them (11,000 posts).
8. Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers fans take eighth place on our rankings of the NFL’s most politically active fanbases. Across more than 25,000 posts, we awarded the fanbase a score of 30.6 out of 50, with the Democratic Party proving a particularly common talking point.
9. New Orleans Saints
Another NFC South team, the New Orleans Saints, takes the #9 spot in our rankings. We tracked more than 30,000 online posts from Saints fans on both sides of the political divide, eventually earning the team’s fanbase a final score of 29.7.
10. Arizona Cardinals
Rounding out our top ten is the Arizona Cardinals, who beat competition from teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears to secure a place in our list. With a final score of 27.9 out of 50, they claim a place in our rankings by just 0.4 points.
Which NFL fans engage in the most Democrat-leaning discussions online?
Now that we know which teams engage in the most political discourse overall, which sides do they tend to take? Here’s a breakdown of which teams’ fans discussed Democratic politics the most, as well as how positive or negative their views are.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Despite showing a variety of political viewpoints, the Chiefs are the team that discussed the Democratic Party and its members the most, with 35,000 mentions of the organization itself and 26,000 mentions of its figures. 35% of posts mentioning the party were negative, the same as the number Chiefs fans directed at the Republican Party, indicating an even split. The team’s fans finish with a score of 48.3 out of 50, making them the most active in Democratic discussions.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
Taking second place once again are the Philadelphia Eagles, whose huge fan base gives them an edge in our rankings. Scoring 43.4 out of 50, the Eagles’ fans made the second most mentions of the Democratic Party (34,000) and its figures (20,000) in the league. While they held less of a negative sentiment towards the party than the Chiefs (16%), more criticism was levelled at their politicians (43% negative).
3. New Orleans Saints
With a massive 80% negative sentiment towards the Democratic Party, compared to just 29% against the GOP, the Saints’ online fans are overwhelmingly anti-Democrat according to our rankings. However, they still discussed their politics, earning them a score of 42.0 out of 50.
4. Denver Broncos
While many Broncos fans were more positive about the Democratic Party than other teams (11% positive sentiment), a 58% negative sentiment indicates a split in the audience’s views. Their views on Democratic political figures, however, were almost universally positive, suggesting that their issues could be more organizational than personal. They rank fourth on our list with a score of 41.1.
5. Dallas Cowboys
As we mentioned previously, the Cowboys seem to have one of the most positively-minded Democrat audiences in the NFL. Across the 18,000 posts we analyzed about the party, 24% were positive, while 21% were negative. These contribute to their final score of 40.7, landing them in fifth.
6. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers score 33.7 on our rankings of the most active fanbases in Democratic discussions, indicating a steep drop from the Cowboys’ score. Sentiment towards the party is evenly split on the team, with both positive and negative sentiment of 18%.
7. Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals fans seem to love discussing the blue party, earning them a score of 33.3 and seventh place on our list. Despite this, we monitored almost no positive discussions of the party, compared to 51% negative sentiment.
8. Chicago Bears
Across the 11,000 posts we analyzed from Bears fans mentioning the Democratic Party, 18% were positive, making them one of the most pro-Democrat teams in the league. However, this is contrasted by a negative sentiment of 51%. They still earn a place in the top ten, though, with a score of 31.4.
9. Washington Commanders
After their crowd made headlines for booing Donald Trump this year, you may expect Commanders fans to be more favorable to the Democratic Party. However, we still saw 55% negative sentiment towards them in posts we analyzed, compared to 9% positive sentiment. In total, their fans score 30.9 points to land a place among the most active fanbases in Democratic debates.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars
Finally, the Jacksonville Jaguars round out our top ten with a score of 27.5 out of 50. Despite making 7,040 posts about the Democratic Party, many of them seemed unbiased, as both positive and negative sentiment stood at just 9%.
Which NFL fans engage in the most Republican-leaning discussions online?
We’ve covered Democratic conversations, but which teams debate Republican politics the most? Here are the top ten:
1. Washington Commanders
With 105,000 mentions of Republican figures and 17,000 mentions of their party, Commanders fans are the most vocal about right-wing politics in the NFL. They finish with an almost perfect score of 49.6 out of 50, fuelled by a massive 55% negative sentiment towards the GOP, compared to just 9% positive sentiment.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
For a third time, the Eagles finish second on our list, scoring 48.5. While their fans showed some respect for the Republican Party (6% positive) and its politicians (7% positive), most discussions were negative, with 36% of posts mentioning key figures like Trump, DeSantis, and Pence expressing disapproval. They’re also the team with the most posts regarding these figures (136,000).
3. Kansas City Chiefs
While they might be the most politically charged team in the league according to our rankings, the Chiefs aren’t as involved in Republican political discussions as they are with Democratic ones. With more than 116,000 posts discussing Republican figures (and 35% negative sentiment, compared to 8% positive), they score 45.2 on our list.
4. Detroit Lions
With a score of 40.5, Lions fans rank fourth among the most engaged fanbases in Republican discourse online. While they boast the second-highest rate of support for the party in the NFL according to posts we analyzed (11% positive sentiment), a further 59% of posts regarding the GOP were negative.
5. Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers score 38.8 out of 50 to round out the top five of our list. The team’s fans stand out for having the most positive reception to Republican political figures in the whole league, with 60% of tweets praising the party’s key politicians. This is almost double that of the Arizona Cardinals, who were the second-most positive team.
6. Minnesota Vikings
In sixth place, the Minnesota Vikings score 36.6 out of 50. They appear to be one of the most vocally anti-Republican fanbases in the league, with 69% of posts mentioning the GOP being hostile, as well as 78% of posts about its politicians.
7. Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons have the least-receptive NFL fanbase to Republican politicians in the whole league, according to our data. They score a total of 34.6, with a massive 84% of posts about Republican figures being disapproving.
8. Las Vegas Raiders
Fans of the Las Vegas Raiders seem to have a warmer reception to Republican figures than fans of many other teams, with 23% of posts about popular GOP politicians being positive, compared to just 14% disagreeing. This earns them a score of 34.2 on our index.
9. Carolina Panthers
After appearing in eighth on our overall rankings, the Panthers land at #9 in our list of the fanbases that engage in the most Republican online discussions. With an 80% disapproval rating in posts about Republican figures, they score 33.7.
10. Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams conclude our rankings with a score of 30.6, which sees them edge out the Broncos and Colts for a place in the top ten. A massive 80% of their fans’ posts about the Republican Party disapproved of the organization, as well as 71% of posts about its members.
What can we learn from our data?
Our list shows that while there may be trends in support for specific teams, the NFL fanbase spans a wide range of ideologies and viewpoints, with many teams having a near-even split between the two main sides of the political spectrum. We can also see that a majority of political discussion online is negative, even from fanbases who are more receptive to a particular party.
Whichever side of the conversation you fall on, our rankings show key trends in how NFL fans share their politics online, with no sign of the discussion slowing down any time soon.
Methodology
We used Brandwatch to analyze social listening data between November 2024 and December 2025.
Across four key categories, including the Democratic party, Republican party, and key political figures associated with the individual parties, to reveal which NFL fanbases are the most politically charged and which have engaged with the most online conversations associated with the two main political parties in America.
The findings were then indexed and ranked to see who was at the forefront of these conversations.
For example, keywords included “Democrat,” “Democratic Party,” and “blue states” for the Democratic party and “Republican,” “Republican Party”, and “GOP” for the Republican party.
