The Golden State Warriors free agency period continues to not go super well. They are losing one of their best shooters from last season.
The Golden State Warriors are losing another piece from last season. They haven’t made a single free agency signing. Time is ticking and many players are getting signed to rival teams. The Warriors lost a fan favorite in Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans. Now a young player with lots of potential is headed out the door.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on the recent Warriors free agency loss.
“Free agent guard Lindy Waters III has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs, agents Shy Saee and Winston Nelson of Klutch Sports tell ESPN. Waters has shot 37% from 3 in his first four NBA seasons in Oklahoma City, Golden State and Detroit.”
While Lindy Waters III wasn’t a huge part of the Warriors roster last season, he still contributed meaningfully at times.
Waters particularly was helpful as a sharpshooter off the bench. He averaged 5.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists last season. He only averaged 17.2 minutes a game in 38 contests for the Warriors.
Waters hasn’t been able to find consistent rotation minutes yet in the NBA. He played a support role for the Oklahoma City Thunder and then barely played for the Detroit Pistons before coming to Golden State.

At 27 years old, it is unclear how much improvement Waters will make in his career. Still, he was a decent shooter who the Warriors probably could have retained for a very cheap price. The Warriors' free agency moves continue to stay stagnant while other teams pick up what is left.
