Several Texas high school football players cemented themselves as bona-fide legends, especially in their communities, after their performances in last week’s UIL State championship games.

Here’s a look at those top performers from the championship week of the Texas playoffs. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the Texas Player of the Week. Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 4, and the winner will be announced next week.

X’Zavier Barnett, Yoakum

Barnett, a tailback and SMU commit, rushed for 193 yards on 17 carries and scored five TDs in the Bulldogs’ 45-29 win against Grandview in the 3A DI championship game.

Bret Bauman, Hamilton

Bauman made 16 tackles, including nine solo stops, for the Bulldogs in their 21-7 win against Joaquin for the 2A DI title. He was named the Most Outstanding Player on defense.

Jaylen Bocard, Galena Park North Shore

Bocard, a senior receiver, caught four passes for 79 yards and the Mustangs’ lone TD in their 10-7 win against Duncanville in the 6A Division I championship game. He nearly made another outstanding catch in the win, but it was called back due to a penalty.

Hudson Butchee, Stephenville

A senior linebacker, Butchee helped his defense pitch a shutout in the 4A DI title game, as the Yellow Jackets prevailed, 10-0, against Kilgore. He made 10 tackles, picked off a pass and forced a fumble for another takeaway.

Casen Carney, Muenster

Carney, a senior quarterback, had 241 yards of total offense as the Hornets repeated as 2A Division II champs with a 28-0 win against Shiner. He passed for three TDs while running for another.

KJ Edwards, Carthage

Edwards, the Bulldogs’ standout senior tailback and Texas A&M signee, ended his high school career in style, rushing for 153 yards on 12 carries and two TDs in Carthage’s 49-21 win against West Orange-Stark in the 4A DII title game. One of his TDs covered 87 yards.

Ethan Feaster, DeSoto

A senior receiver, Feaster won his third state title ring with the Eagles in their 55-27 win against Houston Sheldon King in the 6A DII title game. He caught 10 passes for 167 yards and scored twice. Then on Sunday, Feaster officially signed to play at USC next season.

Tony Guillory, Galena Park North Shore

Guillory, a junior, was named the Most Outstanding Player on defense in the Mustangs’ 6A DI title game win against Duncanville. He made 10 tackles, one for loss, and also intercepted a pass deep in his own territory on the game’s opening drive.

Halston Haile, Hamilton

Haile rushed for 93 yards on 22 carries and scored two TDs in the Bulldogs’ 21-7 win against Joaquin in the 2A DI championship game.

Bode Ham, Jayton

Ham had a game for the ages in the Jaybirds’ 99-54 win against Richland Springs for the 1A Division II title. He rushed for 430 yards on 28 carries with 10 TDs, threw for 118 yards and three TDs and also made eight tackles, three for loss, on defense. Ham’s 13 total TDs set a single-game UIL State record. He was named the Most Outstanding Player on both offense and defense.

Hunter Haug, Smithson Valley

Haug, a junior receiver, caught five passes for 109 yards and a TD in the Rangers’ 28-6 win against Frisco Lone Star in the 5A DI title game. He was named the Most Outstanding Player on offense.

Colton Hornsby, Smithson Valley

Hornsby, a senior linebacker, made 11 tackles, had a sack and also returned an interception for a TD in the Rangers’ 5A DI title-game victory.

Legend Howell, DeSoto

A senior quarterback, Howell completed 19-of-25 passes for 280 yards and four TDs to power the Eagles to their 6A DII title-game win against Houston Sheldon King.

Colby Jendrzey, Yoakum

Jendrzey had 15 tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery in the Bulldogs’ 3A DI title-game win against Grandview.

Trot Jordan, Stephenville

Jordan, a junior quarterback, had 164 total yards in the Yellow Jackets’ 4A DI championship game win against Kilgore. He had 86 yards rushing and also had a passing TD.

Jamarion Phillips, South Oak Cliff

Phillips, a senior linebacker, was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Golden Bears’ 35-19 win against Richmond Randle in the 5A Division II title game. He came up with 13 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and picked off a pass.

Stryker Reed, Gordon

Reed rushed for 160 yards on just seven carries and scored four TDs in the Longhorns’ 69-22 win against Rankin in the 1A Division I title game. He also threw for 53 yards, completing both of his pass attempts.

Reid Robertson, Wall

A senior receiver, Robertson caught five passes for 102 yards and scored two TDs in the Hawks’ 25-24 win against Newton for the 3A DII title, cementing a 16-0 season.

Damarion Ross, DeSoto

Ross was named the Most Outstanding Player on defense in the Eagles’ 6A DII title-game win. He made four tackles, including two solo stops, and returned an interception 94 yards for a TD.

Gavin Sisson, Wall

Sisson was named the Most Outstanding Player on defense in the Hawks’ 3A DII championship game triumph. He recorded 13 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and half a sack.

Jett Surratt, Carthage

In his final game as a Bulldog, the senior quarterback completed 20-of-28 passes for 232 yards and three TDs in their 4A DII title-game win.

Mikail Trotter, South Oak Cliff

In the Golden Bears’ 5A DII championship game win against Richmond Randle, Trotter rushed for 143 yards on 11 carries and found the end zone three times.

Brayden Walters, Gordon

Walters was named the Most Outstanding Player on defense in the Longhorns’ 1A DI title-game win. He made 11 tackles, one for loss and also picked off a pass.

Rhett Walterscheid, Muenster

Walterscheid helped spearhead the Hornet defense in shutting out Shiner for the 2A DII title. He made eight tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss along with a sack.

Tylin Williams, Carthage

Williams, a senior defensive back, had 11 total tackles with five solo stops in the Bulldogs’ 4A DII title-game win. He also blocked a punt, which he returned 9 yards for a TD.
