Braves News: Ketel Marte, JR Ritchie, More

One day closer to 2026.

On Monday Evening, Ken Rosenthal dropped his latest “news around the league” article for the latest updates on rumors around MLB. One interesting note he mentioned was the Braves were not a clean fit for Ketel Marte. The main reason is because the Braves did not want to give up the haul of young pitching that Arizona is looking for in a deal, specifically Hurston Waldrep. Another reason is the fact that the Braves already have Ozzie Albies in place at second with the ability to keep Albies through 2027.

Rosenthal never directly states that the Braves discussed Marte with Arizona, but the fact that he directly links the Braves to Marte is interesting. It likely indicates the Braves did check in on Marte, and while they could have the type of package to acquire him, they would rather keep the young pitching depth for the future. I think there is little doubt the Braves would certainly benefit from adding Marte, but it does make sense that the Braves want to keep their young pitching. This is especially true with how much Alex Anthopoulos values pitching depth.
