Barcelona are approaching a delicate but important phase of planning, and one of the most sensitive topics on the table concerns the future of one of the club’s most experienced figures.

According to a report from SPORT, manager Hansi Flick is expected to hold a crucial conversation with Robert Lewandowski at the beginning of 2026 to discuss whether the striker should remain at Barcelona beyond the current campaign.

At present, there is no final decision from either side. Lewandowski’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and both the club and the player prefer to wait until February or March before drawing conclusions.

While Lewandowski’s influence inside the dressing room remains strong, his season so far has been disrupted by physical issues, leaving his long-term role slightly uncertain.

Lewandowski willing to sacrifice his status

Despite those doubts, the Polish forward is far from closing any doors. He remains settled in Barcelona and feels at home in the city with his family.

The idea of extending his stay for one or two more seasons is appealing, even if that means accepting a different role within the squad.

Crucially, Lewandowski is open to adapting. He understands the direction Barcelona are heading in and is willing to step back from being the undisputed starter if needed.

Everything, however, hinges on a calm and honest exchange with Flick. Their relationship is built on trust and transparency, forged during their successful time together at Bayern Munich.

Both men are known for their direct approach, and neither is expected to shy away from difficult truths.

So what now?

If Flick believes Lewandowski can still contribute meaningfully, the manager is unlikely to stand in the way of a renewal.

Equally, Flick is expected to be clear if he feels the team’s evolution requires a different profile leading the line.

Interestingly, those close to Lewandowski feel Flick’s arrival at Barcelona played a major role in reviving his motivation.

The striker himself believes the coach helped him rediscover his hunger and purpose at the club.

Without that reunion, his Barcelona chapter may already have come to an end.
