Former Georgia Bulldogs star Lorenzo Carter is hanging up the cleats at age 29 after seven seasons in the NFL
Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Lorenzo Carter, who is 29 years old, is retiring from the NFL after seven seasons. Carter, a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the New York Giants from 2018-2021. Carter played with his hometown Atlanta Falcons from 2022-2024.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound edge defender recorded 21.5 sacks and 278 tackles in his NFL career. Carter signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Tennessee Titans ahead of the 2025 NFL season and participated in offseason training activities, but he elected to retire before training camp.
"He (Lorenzo Carter) notified us yesterday that he will be retiring," said Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi. "We wish him well." Carter informed the Titans of his decision the day before Tennessee reported to training camp. The Titans have their first training camp practice on Wednesday, July 23 and could be in the market for an edge defender following Carter's retirement.
Carter's top moment at Georgia came when he blocked an Oklahoma field goal in doubt overtime of the Rose Bowl, which was a College Football Playoff semifinal. Carter's play set up Georgia running back Sony Michel to have a walk-off touchdown.
Carter posted 14 sacks and 165 tackles from 2014-2017 at Georgia. Most importantly, he helped the Dawgs win an SEC championship in 2017 and return to the national championship game.
